IC New Zealand announce team
The International Club (IC) of New Zealand has announced its team for the bi-annual IC World final. The event will be played in Auckland between 18 – 22 February 2008, which is at the conclusion of the New Zealand ITF 18s circuit. Queenstown brothers Riki McLachlan and Ben McLachlan (pictured), will be joined by Briar Preston(pictured in main pic) of North Harbour and Leela Beattie from South Canterbury . The team Captain will be former Davis Cup player, and highly regarded coach Kevin Woolcott. The non traveling reserves will be Imogen Golder ( Auckland ) and Jordan Kelly-Houston ( Canterbury ). The NZ IC team will take on travelling teams from Italy , UK , Mexico , Japan , Chile , Uzbekistan and South Africa , in the round robin with play-offs team event. The event mirrors the Davis and Fed Cup format in that courtside coaching is permitted at the change of ends. IC NZ President Des Shaw is delighted that New Zealand is hosting the prestigious event, which was first held at the world level in Sydney two years ago. New Zealand won the event on that occasion. “We hope to provide an excellent event here in New Zealand and to provide for the players great matchplay opportunities and a wonderful international experience” Shaw said.
